Closed Loop Treatment
Closed Loop systems require careful evaluation and special monitoring techniques
Considerations Include:
Makeup rate- Oxygen intrusion
- Contaminants
- Metallurgies
- Temperature
and Pressures - System volumes
- Flowrate
- Filtration
- Freeze protection
Special monitoring often required:
- Inhibitor levels
- pH
- Conductivity
- Microbiological levels (aerobic and anaerobic)
- Ammonia
- Corrosion coupons
- Corrosion byproducts (iron, copper)
Understanding the closed loops and proper monitoring allows the proper design of chemical treatment. Often a system needs to be cleaned and sterilized with treatments such as peracetic acid and/or hydrogen peroxide. Other cleaning programs can effectively remove corrosion products or other deposits. Ongoing treatment will require inhibitors and non-oxidizing biocides.
